Terms of Service
Last updated: October 14, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of ChalkBill, operated by ChalkBill. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
Acceptance of terms
By creating a ChalkBill account, you confirm that you can form a binding contract, that you have read and agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy, and that you will comply with applicable laws when using the Service.
The service and beta status
ChalkBill helps freelancers and small businesses create, send, and track invoices for their clients. ChalkBill is currently provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis while in beta. Features may change, be added, or be removed, and the Service may experience bugs or downtime as we continue developing it. We’ll try to give notice of significant changes, but we don’t guarantee advance notice for every change during this stage.
Accounts and security
You’re responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly at support@chalkbill.com if you suspect unauthorized access. You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
Plans and billing
ChalkBill currently offers three plans:
- Free — $0/month. 5 invoices per month, 10 clients, PDF generation, email delivery, and client portal access.
- Pro — $9/month billed monthly, or $7/month billed annually. Unlimited invoices and clients, recurring invoices, analytics, and all templates.
- Business — $29/month billed monthly, or $23/month billed annually. Everything in Pro, plus custom branding, priority support, and a dedicated account manager.
Paid plans are billed through Stripe and renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your billing settings or the Stripe billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you’ll keep paid-plan access until then.
Note on free trials: our pricing page currently advertises a 14-day Pro trial. As of this version of the Terms, our checkout flow does not yet apply an automatic trial period — if you start a paid plan, billing begins immediately unless we tell you otherwise at checkout. We are reconciling this with the pricing page; contact us before upgrading if you want to confirm current trial terms.
Refunds
If you’re not satisfied with your first payment on a Pro plan, contact us within 14 days of that purchase at support@chalkbill.com and we will refund it. This first-payment refund applies once per customer; later renewal payments are not covered by this policy, though you’re welcome to reach out and we’ll consider requests case by case.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use ChalkBill to:
- Send fraudulent, deceptive, or abusive invoices or communications;
- Violate any applicable law, including tax, consumer-protection, or data-protection law;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our infrastructure;
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service;
- Upload malicious code or attempt to reverse-engineer the Service beyond what law permits.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
Your content and your responsibilities
You retain ownership of the business, client, and invoice data you enter into ChalkBill (“Your Content”). You’re solely responsible for the accuracy of Your Content, including invoice amounts, tax calculations, and compliance with any laws that apply to your business and the invoices you send. ChalkBill is a tool to help you create and send invoices — it is not accounting, tax, or legal advice, and we don’t review or verify the content of your invoices.
Payments between you and your clients
ChalkBill is not a party to, and does not process, payments between you and your clients. Any payment instructions you include on an invoice (for example, how you’d like to be paid) are provided by you directly; we don’t handle, hold, or guarantee those payments. ChalkBill’s own payment processing, through Stripe, is limited to billing you for your ChalkBill subscription.
Email delivery
We use a third-party email provider to send account and invoice emails on your behalf. We don’t guarantee that every email will be delivered, opened, or not marked as spam by a recipient’s email provider — deliverability depends on factors outside our control.
Data export and deletion
ChalkBill does not currently offer a self-serve data export or account-deletion feature in the product. If you’d like a copy of your data or want your account and data deleted, email support@chalkbill.com and we will handle your request manually.
Intellectual property
ChalkBill, its branding, and its underlying software are owned by ChalkBilland protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms don’t grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or source code beyond what’s needed to use the Service as intended.
Termination
You may stop using ChalkBill at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service, with notice where reasonably practicable. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (such as limitation of liability and indemnity) will continue to apply.
Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChalkBill is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure from all threats.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, ChalkBill’s total liability arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We won’t be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold ChalkBill harmless from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll notify you by email or with a notice in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use ChalkBill after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in that state.
